March in recovery (phew!)

This month I went to ECCC. It’s my favorite convention, and this year it was in a brand new building. I’ve been doing ECCC since 2021, so this was the first year I got to table in its normal timeslot (March). I love spending time with my friends and getting to meet just the coolest people in the world. Thank you to everyone who came and said hi!!! It’s the whole reason I do cons.

About a week after ECCC, my girlfriend and I got sick (just a normal cold, apparently, according to several tests). But we were laid out for a week, so I fell really behind in my thumbnails for How Could You and my pencils for Heave and Thaw. When I’m not doing day job stuff, I’m doing those two projects pretty much exclusively. Pray for me?

I also did my taxes (boo) and gave copies of my comics to Emerald Comic Distro (yay!). Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months, my zines might pop up in your area.

Here’s something I drew at ECCC: Kirianthe. Sorry not sorry. And below is a little something featuring the characters of Heave and Thaw.

And if you want more Heave and Thaw, this month’s 18+ art features Char and Emery (below). The full image is up for Pin Up, Love Letter, and Lucky tier members.

RISO NEWS

This month I reprinted Saturn Returns No Matter What FOR THE FINAL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That link there will take you to my shop where you can get your copy. Other than that, you’ll have to wait for Emerald Comics Distro to stock them in your local comic shop, because I will not be reprinting these. They are so damn expensive to make. Hopefully y’all leave me with enough inventory to take to VanCAF and MCAF.

I will be reprinting and restocking a bunch of prints next month, if my budget allows. I’m all sold out of some of my favorites. I also need to challenge myself to make new prints, hrmmm.

I finished the risograph print for the Classics But Gay III crowdfund <3 It’s going to be a bedside table full of gay artifacts in the style of a Matisse still life. I haven’t posted my preview yet, but I will soon!

I also released two new zines to itch.io last month, Lesbian Gender Outlaw and Heavyweight Desk Jockey World Champ. And now you can get print copies!

Psst, here’s my Autostraddle comic for this month. Enjoy!

Here’s some sweet treats for you to check out:

  • Webcomic rec: I’ve been really liking What Happens Next. Whole host of trigger warnings on this baby so proceed with caution.

  • This month’s hike was Latourell Falls. I’m a frequent flyer in the gorge, but somehow I haven’t done this one before? It was short and sweet!

  • I got a ton of comics at ECCC, mostly from ShortBox. My recommendations are: I See A Knight, Cry Wolf Girl, Your Mother’s Fox, and Beneath the Dead Oak Tree. If you can only choose one… I really, reeeeally liked I See A Knight.

  • Some middle grade comics I got and really liked: The Leak by Kate Reed Petty and Andrea Bell and Frizzy by Claribel A. Ortega and Rose Bousamra

  • Oh, and more lesbian werewolf porn coming at you from my bestie Fawnduu. She’s hatching quail right now and is about to be a father, so go support her.

  • My other bestie Mycorrhiza, author of the lesbian fantasy illustrated web novel Earthshine, now has a newsletter that they’re coding themself. They’re insane and incredible and inspiring. Get an RSS reader and check em out! This is also a plug for Earthshine. If you’re missing The Shepherd’s Sword while it’s on hiatus, I assure you you’ll get something you’ll love out of Earthshine.

Cheers!

Ren
