Amira Miles is here

For grown ups only!!!

Over the past 72 hours, I was possessed by a demon that made me draw incredibly horny gym girl x rat girl comics. This is “Amira in Buff World” the first issue in the Amira series. And you can read it when you join Patreon at Horn Dog tier or above. It’s going to be an ongoing series, featuring the van life influencer Amira as she blazes a devastating trail through the western half of the country and documents it for her social media following. The first stop? Juliette, the body builder.

I’m really glad I finished this comic before heading off to NYC for FlameCon, or else I’d just be thinking about it all weekend. I plan on printing it for Comic Arts LA in December, but until then, Patreon (and Substar) remains the only place you can read it.

FlameCon 2024

Saturday and Sunday, if you’re in the NYC area, come say hi at FlameCon! This is our first time doing this show, with Fawnduu, Catskullery, and En. FlameCon is my only east coast show of the year. We’re sharing an 8’ table, so expect to see our best-of-the-best work. We’ll be at table PR-3 along the wall.

After FlameCon, I’ll be attending XOXO! Will I see you there? Then I’m doing back to back events with Rose City Comic Con and Portland Zine Symposium. At Rose City, I’ll be doing a panel and a thing with Wacom, so stay tuned for more info on that!

August Mail Club Reward!

Oh Lou :’(

August’s mail club goes out to Lou, the loyal-to-a-fault best friend of Molly. The ex of hopeless romantic Yona. The she/they who’s just trying to get through senior year of undergrad but everything just seems to be happening to them… Take control of your life, Lou!!

You’ll get to meet Lou in How Could You, my queer romance drama debut graphic novel which you should totally pre-order if you haven’t yet. It comes out in December!

Postcard print and stickers are printed locally here in Portland OR. Join the mail club here! Lou is the second to last in the How Could You mail club series. I’ve been having fun dedicating this year’s designs to the characters of my first ever book. Next month will be Molly, the main baddy herself.

Parent of Three - Autostraddle Comic

This month’s comic goes out to Mickie and all the pet parents out there. Read the full comic here and find my Autostraddle backlog here.

The Shepherd’s Sword - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 of The Shepherd’s Sword has begun! We pick up in the present with Robin and Jo, who are soon to find themselves in company with a certain unlikely pair of adventuring Swords… You can read ahead on Patreon!

What else did I do this month, hmm…

So last month I was like “I’m doing great, just art, no day job required” and that’s still true, but one of my consultation gigs ended and now I’m picking up a few hours of a job outside of the house. It’s gonna be really good for my brain to leave the house, have IRL coworkers, and do something physical with my hands. I only need a couple hours a week of work to cover the gap left by this one gig ending, so it shouldn’t be too taxing on my art-related responsibilities.

I hope that my need to take time off for cons won’t be too much of a hassle. It’s tricky to find the right fit! I won’t get specific with what kind of gig I’ve picked up, just for privacy’s sake. But I do value the transparency of sharing the reality of being an artist, so I’m documenting it here. All that being said, if anyone in the Portland area is looking for someone to do literally anything for 4-16 hours a week, hmu. I have a gig lined up, but I’d always prefer to work for friends, colleagues, likeminded individuals, etc. 🧘

It feels good to not have to rely on a demanding desk job, to know that what I’m doing is enough plus a little help from whatever gig I can find. It feels like just another step towards improving my craft and continuing to make cool shit.

Apart from that, since last we spoke, I’ve been playing Dress to Impress. Courtney’s been on the Roblox grind for years, and I’ve laughed. But who’s laughing now? Okay but fr I gotta go clean the house and pack for FlameCon. Byee!!

Here’s some sweet treats for you to check out:

  • Pre-order my book! How Could You comes out this December.

  • Nova and Mali are Kickstarting another art book, which my gf has a piece in! A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Art History ends its fundraising on Friday and they have a long way to go. Consider helping them out?

  • August’s hike: no hike yet, but we did float the river! This year we did Dabney to Lewis and Clark on the Sandy River. It was soooo slow, especially compared to last year, which had more snow melt, and we were higher up on the Sandy. It was just as charming and fun though, always a great way to spend a hot afternoon.

  • “I'm Sorry for Loving You” by Naoko, a butch4butch yuri manga!

  • Remember the 2010s? This was the decade I became an adult. This is the decade they’ll try to recreate for me when I’m in the retirement home. Make sure they have this links resource.

  • How to animate text in the easiest, coolest freakin way possible.

  • Boy Island by Leo Fox looks cool as fuck.
